FAQ

Q: Why do I need to join to share information?
A: It is important that information is only shared with members of Checkin, this is to ensure that there is an agreement in place to share CCTV images and that we do not break Data Protection. With the agreements in place we are able to share, legally, information and images.

Q: What information should I share?
A: It is imperative that all information is shared with the group that involves crime, anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity or behaviour. The group may be useful just to gain other information or circulate a vacancy.
Q: Why is this group important?
A: Checkin strives to reduce crime and make the city a safer place for our guests and staff in hotels. It is a clear message to criminals and to our tourists that we are not willing to allow for crimnal activity or other unacceptable behaviour to create an unwelcoming experience of the capital. The sharing of information will increase our ability to reduce and eliminate crime by learning from each other to avoid repeat crime.
Q: How can I become a member?
A: At this time, hotels applying must be in the Edinburgh region and should use the contact page to summit your details. I will send you the application form shortly after this time.

Q: Is there a criteria for becoming a member?
A: The criteria for becoming a member of Checkin is that you must be a hotel in Edinburgh, and recognise Safety and Security as a key aspect of your business. Hotels that join Checkin must have, or commit to having, CCTV on the entrance to the building as a minimum and finally agree to the policies set our by the group at all times. Failure to carry out these practises would see a hotel removed from the Checkin group.
